WA: Rebel bikie in court over nightclub shooting

BUNBURY WA, Feb 11 AAP - A senior member of the Rebels bikie gang, accused of tryingto kill two members of the rival gang Coffin Cheaters, has appeared in a West Australiancourt amid tight security.

The president of the Rebels south-west WA chapter, Gavin John McMaster, was chargedwith two counts of attempted murder after two men were shot in a crowded nightclub atBunbury, 180km south of Perth, early Saturday.

Police said after the incident that one man was shot in the stomach and another in the chest.

The men were recovering under police guard at Bunbury Hospital.

A heavy police presence was maintained at the Bunbury courthouse as McMaster appearedthere today, and visitors were subject to metal-detector tests.

McMaster was not required to enter a plea.

He was remanded in custody, and was expected to apply for bail in another court sessionlater today.
