FED: Downer's office says pilot was from Adelaide

SYDNEY, Feb 23 AAP - An Australian helicopter pilot killed in Afghanistan was from
Adelaide, Foreign Minister Alexander Downer's office confirmed today.

The pilot was killed and a passenger seriously injured when a suspected insurgent sprayed
the helicopter with gunfire as it took off from an Afghan village yesterday, local officials
said.

While the man's identity was yet to be released, a spokesman for Mr Downer today confirmed
the pilot was from Adelaide.
