ABIX via COMTEX) -- The World Congress on Information Technology (WCIT) has been held in South Australia. Microsoft Corporation chief technology officer, Craig Mundie, told those present that the Internet today is at about the same stage of development as were personal computers (PCs) in 1984. He says, though, that with the number of computers interacting with each other numbering in the billions, programmers have to begin thinking about the situation differently. He says this new outlook will be the third era of the Internet, but will only happen if people trust computers. Mundie also used the convention to unveil two new Microsoft products: the Tablet PC, which is a notepad-style computer without a keyboard, and the Smartphone 2002, which is a combination pocket PC and a mobile telephone. Special feature on the World Congress on Information Technology (WCIT).
