NSW: Ocean swim event halted after shark sightings

An ocean swimming event off Sydney's eastern suburbs has been halted after three shark sightings.

Organisers say more than 800 people .. aged 13 to 70 .. had registered to do today's
2.5-kilometre Cliffside-Odyssey swim from Tamarama to Clovelly.

Race director and surf lifesaver JOEL TURNER says after multiple sightings of sharks
.. they've decided to stop the swim and do a thorough check of the area.

The 500 people .. who'd already finished the race .. had battled big swells and rips.
