QLD:Howard campaigns in north Qld

BRISBANE, Aug 13 AAP - Former prime minister John Howard has made a flying visit to
north Queensland and plans to campaign in NSW and Western Australia over the coming week.

Mr Howard arrived in Cairns on Thursday night, where he was the guest at a fundraiser
for Liberal National Party candidate for Leichhardt, Warren Entsch.

Campaigning in Cairns on Friday, Mr Howard said the axing of Kevin Rudd as prime minister
was playing on voters' minds.

"It's getting to be the business end of the campaign," Mr Howard told reporters.

"This is going to be a very tight election.

"The Coalition has done very very well over the last couple of months.

"The public are utterly confused about the Labor Party in relation to Mr Rudd's removal."

Mr Entsch, who formerly held the seats for the Liberals, said Mr Howard had personally
offered to speak at the fundraiser.

Mr Howard said he planned to be in WA over the weekend and visit seats in NSW next week.
